Abstract

Losses in distribution system are broadly classified as feeder line loss, distribution transformer loss and end-user circuit loss. Among these, feeder line loss is practically difficult to measure due to its inaccessibility. An approach is developed in this paper to estimate the feeder circuit loss. It involves the calculation of individual feeder segment losses and adding them. The calculation is based on feeder circuit without actual measurement. The feeder circuit consists of many nodes, branches, sub-branches and sub-sub-branches. MATLAB simulation results indicate that the feeder line loss is 1.33% of the total energy import to feeder. The approach developed is simple and can be applied for any number of nodes and branches for fairly accurate results, thus avoiding approximation in loss calculation.
