Abstract

Results of simulation concerning a reverse flow reactor for thermal oxidation of lean methane are presented. The method termed inner cooling is employed and analyzed. The method is that heat is withdrawn with heat exchanger from inner of the reactor. Simulations show that a relation exists between the heat transfer capacity and the methane concentration. The relation has the practical importance and can be used to design the heat exchanger. The results reveal that inner cooling guarantees symmetry of the semi-cycle temperature profiles of reverse flow and the cyclic steady state operation of the reactor can be easily obtained.
