Abstract

ECLIPS is a new asynchronous distributed shared data space, integrating capability-based protection of the data space that allows confining arbitrary subsystems. At its core it is a descendant of the SPLICE architecture and retains the important features—performance, fault tolerance, application extensibility, the simplicity of hav ing but few operations—while bringing a novel approach to many areas, in particular by controlling the data space through its contents, and through its reliance on the struc ture of the data space to control data visibility.
