Ranging, Detection, Correlation, Delay
This paper suggests the effective use of Golay codes in ranging applications. Coded signals with the complementary Golay Codes are transmitted towards a specific direction. After reflection from the object(s) these signals arrive with some delay at the receiver. At the receiver at base band, when the correlation of each Golay code is carried out with itself and the two correlation results are added, then side lobes are completely suppressed in the correlation result. The peak of the correlation gives the delay which is the range of the object(s) detected. This side lobe suppression property is most significant in the case of multiple-objects present. Even very weak object cannot be missed due to the absence of the side lobes.
