Modification for processing thermal images of a well known and efficient CamShift method is proposed. It is highly robust and computationally lightweight. A so called backprojection is built first, defining the similari ty measure between image pixels and histogram of the object of interest. Then sought is a center of connected component, which contains the center of the object as found on the previous frame. Testing of the method has been conducted on real images from thermal imaging device working in middle infrared (3.7-4.2 μm). Estima tion of method efficiency and applicability limits has been done, merits and dismerits were revealed.
