This paper presents hardware modeling and analysis of the harmonic content and overall performance of a system including both a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and a Static VAR Compensator (SVC). Specifically, three cases will be investigated: no compensation, static capacitor compensation, and power electronic based static VAR compensation. A small-scale hardware model of the system was constructed and tested to measure power quality parameters. Results showing variations of these power quality parameters at different points in the system will be discussed along with recommendations to suppress them if their values are relatively high.
