Abstract

This paper presents the small signal modelling and control of a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) single phase inverter. The inverter is operated with a tracking mechanism where the output voltage of the inverter is first processed by a low pass filter. The voltage across the output capacitor is fed back and compared with the corresponding reference signal. A proportional band is produced around the reference signal and the inverter output is forced to stay within this band. It has been shown that such tracking control generate PWM signal to the switching devices in the inverter. The inverter is simulated in personal computer simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (PSPICE) and the results are found to be satisfactory. A prototype of the inverter is developed in the laboratory to confirm results from the simulation. The small signal analysis confirms the stability of the inverter.
