Abstract

Network reconfiguration is performed by altering the topological structure of distribution feeders. By reconfiguring the network, maximum loadability index (MLI) can be enhanced for the particular set of loads in distribution systems. A simple algorithm is proposed for enhancement of maximum loadability by reducing losses through network reconfiguration. Reconfiguration involves selection of the best set of branches to be opened, one from each loop, such that the resulting radial distribution system is maximizing the MVA load at minimum MLI. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated on two radial distribution systems.
