Abstract

The use of active magnetic bearings (AMB) is increasing in high-speed applications. The control design of AMBs is very demanding and requires accurate system modeling. Besides the traditional finite element analysis and impulse hammer method, the system identification has provided new modeling opportunities. The purpose of this study is to improve the identification results of an AMB rotor system by using an optimal set of excitation signals in identification measurements. The results show that exciting all the inputs simultaneously with suitable excitation signals gives more accurate frequency response functions than for example when exciting the inputs separately.
