Active vibration suppression of very flexible structures with piezoelectric actuators poses extraordinary computational requirements, if model predictive control (MPC) with guaranteed stability and feasibility of constraints is considered. This paper discusses the practical challenges of implementing such controllers on a laboratory model. Difficulties imposed on traditional quadratic-programming MPC and the computationally more efficient multi parametric MPC approach are demonstrated, while the viability of use of Newton-Raphson MPC (NRMPC) method as an alternative is shown. Results from the experimental implementation of NRMPC demonstrate the case in point.
