Abstract

In this paper, a second order sliding mode observer(Super Twisting Algorithm) is proposed to estimate the position and the speed of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) to achieve sensor-less Field Oriented Control (FOC). The main advantage of using high order sliding mode techniques is that it allows to avoid the chattering phenomenon which is inherent in the classical first order sliding mode observers. An observability analysis of Surface PMSM (SPMSM) is proposed and a sufficient condition of loss of observability is developed. Simulations are carried out using Matlab/Simulink to demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the designed estimation strategy.
