Abstract

Improving road safety is among the priorities of many Governments in Europe and abroad. Car industries are following this approach by providing car that are more and more sophisticated under this point of view, and equipped with radar based anticollision systems, navigation systems, drive assist devices. This paper investigates the possibility of merging different sensor systems, radar and vision based, to improve the reliability of the information provided to the driver, about the environment his car is moving in. The sensor fusion approach aims at reducing complexity, thus allowing a real time adoption of these solutions, while maintaining a high degree of confidence in the data provided.
