Abstract

Since redundant relationships in an AON project network indicate that the schedule is more complex than it actually is, this paper proposes to transform the network into a minimum-edge diagraph model which contains no redundant relationships. The transformation methodology is adapted from interpretive structural modeling (ISM), a well-established methodology for simplifying the complex structure of interacting elements. The transformation steps were explained through a demonstrative example of a simple hypothetical project. The application of the methodology to the AON network of a real project shows that it is easy to use yet effective in removing redundant relationships.
