Abstract

Single mode tapered fiber waveguides are used in the design of the multiplexer units of a novel optical fiber multiplexing technique called the Spatial Domain Multiplexing (SDM). The output beam profiles from different tapered fibers are studied to determine the optimum taper geometry for developing the multiplexer units for the SDM system that utilizes helical propagation of light to spatially allocate separate locations to more than one optical channels of same wavelengths within standard step index multimode fiber.
