Abstract

It is realized that the performance of solar cells decreases as temperature increases. In this work, we present the influence of temperature on the electrical parameters and performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The cells consist of nanostructured-TiO2 film working anodes and sputtered-platinum counter electrodes. TiO2 Nanocrystalline films were prepared by sol-gel dip coating method on transparent conducting oxide (TCO) glass substrates. Ultra-thin platinum films were deposited on TCO glass substrates by dc magnetron sputtering to make the counter electrodes. The current (I) and voltage (V) characteristics and the efficiency of the cells were carried out as a function of temperature in the range of 20 – 70 °C. The open circuit voltage (Voc) and short circuit (Isc) of the cells decrease as temperature increases which results in lowering the efficiency of the cells. The temperature dependence of Isc is very sensitive when compared with conventional solar cells. .
