The project described in this paper focuses on the use of 3D Collaborative Virtual Environments (3D CVEs) in an educational multi-cultural context. It revolves around the construction of a virtual Tower of Babel, involving students across cooperating institutions from Finland and Taiwan, on two different continents in different time zones. This project addresses the increasing need for learners to work in diverse cultural environments. Therefore, this paper discusses the challenges associated with supporting group work in 3D CVEs in an educational cross-cultural context.
