Abstract

This paper explores a web based course on action research taught at an institution of higher learning. A review of background literature looking at online discussion is presented, followed by an overview of the research project and a description of the methodology in which a mixed methods approach was adopted. This paper has a particular focus on student learning and findings are organised into three main themes: (1) learning from course material; (2) learning from interactions; and (3) learning from application of knowledge and skills. The paper concludes with a discussion of the individual nature of learning within the context of collaborative learning activities. Implications for teaching and learning are also presented.
