Abstract

The Cell Broadband Engine (CBE) is a heterogeneous multicore processor, which is composed of nine processor elements: one PowerPC Processor Element and eight Synergistic Processor Elements. The CBE achieves a theoretical peak performance of more than 200 billion single-precision floating-point operations per second. In this paper, we implemented an FHP-III lattice-gas model on PlayStation 3 cluster. Experiments on the lattice-gas model (up to 1 billion lattices) showed good results, where the increase in speed was about 11 times more than that of an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 running at 2.4 GHz.
