Abstract

The main objective in any data compression algorithm is to provide acceptable reconstruction of the compressed signals at low bit rates. This paper addresses the factors that affect the compression performance of the ECG signal compression algorithm that was presented in “An efficient coding algorithm for the compression of ECG signals using the wavelet transform . The choice of wavelet filters, decomposition levels, and coefficient quantization is examined and discussed. The experimental results presented in this paper showed the contribution of the above parameters to the compression performance.
