Abstract

This paper presents a methodology to perform voltage stability studies for large power systems. This methodology consists of both modal and time-domain analysis; results from both techniques are used in selecting and siting solutions for potential voltage instability or collapse. Critical contingencies, bus participation, and meeting a predetermined voltage criterion constitute the core of the process. Examples from a real study serve to illustrate different stages of the methodology.
