Distributed algorithms, distributed filtering, sensor networks, contaminant detection
This paper presents a method to detect propagating fronts of contaminants in air by employing a rectangular grid sensor network. A linear filtering based distributed algorithm is used for contaminant front detection. Distributed filters are implemented using state space models for 1-D and 2-D systems. Expressions for the amount of data required to be communicated between the nodes and the power required for operation are derived. Energy efficiency of multi hop transmission and latency of the algorithms are also analyzed. Simulation results are given for a separable example filter.
