Abstract

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTOOH) were used to produce poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) nanocomposites by solvent casting. The thermal behavior and thermal stability of nanocomposites were investigated by Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), respectively. The nanocomposites morphologies were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (MEV). The thermal stability of matrix was not affected by addition of MWCNT and MWCNTOOH; however, both carbon nanotubes act as a nucleating agent. This effect was more pronounced in PHBV/MWCNTOOH due the good dispersion of MWCNTOOH, which was proved by MEV.
