In this study, we developed a self-learning system to learn effective diagrammatical processes for solving mathematical word problems. For each word problem, the system automatically provides learners with blocks that represent the gained distances per unit time so that the learners can draw diagrams by using the blocks. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the system with 32 learners of seventh grader who had learned the topics concerning ‘speed.’ As a result, the gap between the pre and the post- tests is proved to be significant. Hence, we concluded that the system is effective.
