Voluntary load shedding is one of the strategies under the consideration of a South African electricity supplier to solve the increasingly serious electricity shortage problem in the country. This paper presents an optimisation model for the demand side optimal strategy for voluntary load shedding. A scenario from a water supply company is stud ied to illustrate this optimal strategy and the feasibility of voluntary load shedding.
