Adaptive filtering, de-noising, window selection
This paper presents a technique for improving the performance of a locally adaptive Wiener filter by choosing a suitable window size. First we show that the de-noising performance of the basic filter improves by varying the size of a local window. Then a simple technique for approximately estimating a good window size is presented. A comparison of the performance of the improved scheme and the original one indicates that a signal-noise-ratio improvement on the order of 2-3 dB is achievable for the date files tested.
