Reversible image watermarking is a special case of water marking that can embed/recover a user payload and restore the original un-watermarked image exactly. Being able to restore the original image is important for modalities such as medical and military imaging. This paper presents a high capacity reversible watermarking scheme based on difference expansion. The novel method presented here im proves upon a previous scheme by introducing the com panding technique. Experiments compare the novel and previous schemes using test, medical and military images. It can be seen from the results that the novel scheme has a significantly higher payload hiding capacity than the previ ous scheme.
