Stochastic resonance, bistable system, Gaussian mixture noise, signal detector
Detecting weak sinusoidal signal in oceanic noise is a challenging problem. Oceanic noise is non-Gaussian and therefore linear matched filter is not an optimal detector. Non-linear systems are generally employed to get good detection performance. Stochastic resonance (SR) is a nonlinear phenomenon that can enhance the detection of a weak signal. Bistable system has been used in the literature as a SR-detector. In this paper, we propose a practical approach to experimentally obtain the optimal parameters. Simulation results show that the SR-detector with optimal parameters provides a superior performance compared to other SR-detectors.
