This work introduces a fingerprint recognition scheme that is based on the multiresolution-multiorientation properties of curvelets. We show that the superior direction resolving properties of curvelets compared to wavelets, lead to very high recognition accuracy even with highly compressed images. The proposed approach works as a fully automatic recognition scheme as well as a semi-automatic human-interactive recognition system.
