Abstract

A model to optimize the process plant layout problem is formulated in this paper. The model includes statistical information related to the wind in the site where the plant will be installed. This information is typically collected and stored in databases by institutions such as the National Weather Service in USA. A probability distribution function is used to fit all available data of wind direction, wind speed and wind stability. Then, Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to estimate the risk of dead for a given toxic release scenario. By dividing all processes to layout in several facilities, the proposed model is thus solved to produce the optimal distribution for all facilities.
