Abstract

Safety-critical systems are used increasingly in applications that are related to transportation. In these applications, a high level of safety and so a high reliability is required. Electronic interlocking system is one of the safety-critical systems used in railway transportation. In this paper we first use FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) to identify potential causes of system failure and after that we evaluate and simulate the reliability of electronic interlocking system of Tehran Metro using real data about their component’s failure rate and MCS (Monte Carlo Simulation). At the end we consider some improvements in some components due to operation factors and assess the resultant reliability again.
