Abstract

This paper considers the verification of the Controller Area Network (CAN) physical layer by using behaviour modeling and simulation in comparison with measurement. The main purpose is to verify the CAN transceiver behavioural model together with others CAN physical layer simulation components against measurements. Different termination circuits are also simulated to gain understanding on the influence of termination over the CAN bus. Throughout the verification process, the sensitivity of network behaviour is monitored, especially when the CAN bus operates at dominant to recessive mode. Last but not least, matching between measurement and simulation results demonstrates that it is a reliable simulation solution. This is highly desirable and very important for the verification requirement in CAN physical layer design.
