Abstract

The distribution transformer is a vital and costly component of the medium voltage network. The need for reliable operation of the transformer has lead to the development of various methods for diagnosing the condition of its insulation. In some of these methods the activation energy of the insulating materials is the determinant. This paper primarily refers to measurements of insulating resistance in distribution transformers, at various temperatures, and there-after to calculations of the activation energy of their oil-paper insulating system. Observations and comments on the behaviour of the insulating system of the transformers are indicated.
