Abstract

This paper describes the architecture of a powerful information exploitation framework for managing communicable diseases. The technologies that underpin this framework encompasses research in such areas as, information extraction, language engineering, data mining, decision support, information integration, and distributed software systems engineering, besides the management of domain knowledge in epidemiology. The system permits just-in-time information to be disseminated to all communities that deal with communicable diseases. The system also improves the prediction and prevention of infectious and communicable diseases. The technologies that encompass the system can be applied to many application scenarios including such areas as, drug delivery management and patient care. The system offers GoogleEarth based visualization environment also.
