Abstract

This paper presents a new development of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) simulators in both hardware and software. The developed simulators magnify voltage and current of a small PEMFC under a wide range of load variations with the confirmation of independently adjustable voltage and current gain. A simple electronic circuit at low cost is used to develop the hardware PEMFC simulator. The software PEMFC simulator is implemented on the CircuitMaker2000. Experimental results of the hardware PEMFC simulator and simulation results of the software PEMFC simulator match well with each other. Consequently, the developed PEMFC simulators in both hardware and software can be used as an alternative to real fuel cells which provide a convenient tools for the research and development of fuel cell power conditioning devices.
