The implementation of a pattern recognizer for power system diagnosis can provide great advancement in the protection field. In this paper a new method of power transformer protection using Support Vector Machine (SVM) network has been proposed. The fault detector based radial basis function (RBF) networks was in parallel, applied to enable proper performance comparison. Both RBF and SVM networks are introduced and are considered to be an appropriate tool for classification problems. The proposed protection scheme has been evaluated using simulated data obtained through EMTP/ATP package.
