Abstract

The Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) devices, such as STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator), SSSC (Series Static Synchronous Compensator) and UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller), can be equipped with a supplementary damping function to improve power system oscillation stability. In [1] a general analytical method to study this type of VSC based FACTS stabilizers in damping power system oscillations is proposed with analytical conclusions obtained. In [1] the proposed analysis is given for the simple case of single machine infinite-bus power systems. This paper presents the extension of the proposed method to the more general case of multi-machine power systems.
