Abstract

This paper presents mathematical modelling and computer simulation of interior lighting systems. The point-by-point method is modified to include room surface reflectance to achieve more computational accuracy. The reflection of room surfaces added to this calculation is a specular-typed reflection and is considered only the first reflected lighting components. By employing the method of geometrical optics with the inverse square law, a set of nonlinear equations is created. In this paper, Newton-Raphson iterative method is used to find solutions. To illustrate the usefulness of the proposed method, a test-case geometry of a room dimension with 4.0 m × 4.0 m × 4.0 m is used for simulation. The results show that the proposed method can improve accuracy of the direct point-by-point method.
