Abstract

Although programmable devices have been designed, at first, to be used in simple applications, their complexity has known an exponential growth during the last years. As classic design models no longer prove adequate for such complexity, new techniques are required. Quite recently, automata arrays have emerged as a promising method, that could solve most of the actual problems encountered in FPGA design. However, formalization is still insufficient for this technique, and much of the design process is left to the inspiration of the human factor. The present paper proposes a method for the mathematical description of cell interaction, based on the classic model of matrix computing, by improving and extending a formerly proposed technique.
