Abstract

In this paper, a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the shielding effects is reported with reference to some indices as the shielding factor and the shielding effectiveness. These parameters are directly related to the efficiency of the shielding. The goal of the study, starting from the theoretical analysis and by means of a large number of simulations, is to determine the fundamental parameters that influence the shielding and allow to put in evidence the optimization procedure for the shield design, to study the main differences, in the theory and in the application, between the different analysis methods and to evaluate the precision of the applied mathematical models.
