An Integrated Control System Architecture for Autonomous Vehicles

Keywords

Autonomous vehicle, control system architecture.

Abstract

Autonomous vehicle research has its final goal in un manned vehicle operation. This is of great interest in criti cal scenarios such as the exploration of unknown or hostile environments in many civil and military applications. De spite the immediateness and easy understanding of the idea, the autonomous operation design is of paramount complex ity. Many tasks, from vision to coordination, from planning to fault reaction, are easily performed by a human subject, but it becomes humongously difficult to formalize them into machine rules and algorithms. Similarly to manned system, it is the architecture of the whole to play a central role in providing a common playground to undertake deci sions and run procedures.
