Abstract

Our project team has been developing a content management system, called NetCommons since 2001. Unlike other major content management systems, NetCommons provides both content management functions and groupware and e-learning functions. Using NetCommons, one can easily and inexpensively integrate several distributed educational functions such as a school homepage, e-learning, groupware, and information archives into one. We report on the variety of ways people use NetCommons and describe how NetCommons has accelerated the informatization of education in Japan in the past three years.
