The paper studies the problem of the more effective organizing e-learning process by using computer-based teaching systems. The main models that should be included into such kind of systems are outlined. The results of the research of essential knowledge, skills and other characteristics of programming engineer are shown. Expert/knowledge model considering knowledge and skills needed for programmer is offered.
