Weigh-in-Motion, piezoelectric sensors, WIM signal anomalies, and signal processing.
Conventional weigh stations in highways require a full stop or a very slow driving speed to enforce the weight regulations. This is one of the causes of inefficient freight movements. Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems measure Gross Vehicle Weights (GVW) and axle spaces of vehicles on highways at a free-flow traffic speed, and thus reduce traffic delays. This paper presents a recent development of WIM systems based on piezoelectric sensors. A new signal processing algorithm based on a re sampling technique and treatments of signal anomalies are presented.
