Microstrip antennas, radar applications, ultra-wideband
The subject of this paper is the design of a small-size and low-cost antenna to be used in Ultra Wideband (UWB) short-range radar devices operating in the 5 GHz band. The antenna is based on a square array of four patch antennas designed to offer good matching on a 500 MHz bandwidth around a center frequency of 5.6 GHz. The proposed an tenna design is discussed, giving details on the prototype realization. Simulations results are presented and com pared with measurements of return loss and antenna pat tern. Simulation analysis is carried out on the full FCC UWB band, showing fair matching on a bandwidth in ex cess than 4 GHz and possibility for further efficiency en hancements.
