Abstract

Data security is the prime aspect that needs to be considered for the success of m-commerce and e commerce. Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) are just examples amongst various security protocol tools that have been proposed to address this security issue. In this paper, the cryptographic similarities and differences of the transport layer security protocols WTLS and SSL are analyzed and each of these two security protocols is evaluated against the goals of a security system which are: authentication, privacy, content integrity, and non-repudiation. The aim of this evaluation is to determine if the investigated transport layer security protocols meet the goals of a security system.
