Optimum Detector for HF Radio Links using Genetic Algorithm

Block Data Transmission system is suitable for communication over fading time dispersive channels. Conventional block data detection technique based on linear, non-linear decision directed and maximum likelihood estimation principles are computationally intensive. In this paper, a genetic algorithm based block data detection technique is proposed. Simulation results on the effect of selection schemes (Roulette Wheel, Stochastic Universal Sampling, and Tournament Selection scheme), mutation rate and population size are presented. It has been found that genetic algorithm considerably reduces the computational complexity of the optimum detection process and makes it suitable for online computation.
