Speech intelligibility enhancement, dual-channel, noise analysis.
This paper addresses the problem of dual-channel speech enhancement based on noise analysis in real time. In previous algorithms related to the speech intelligibility, the improvement in intelligibility is mostly incorporated in a single-channel environment where the speech and noise signals are mixed together. In this paper, we deal with the dual-channel speech enhancement algorithm which enhances the intelligibility by reinforcing speech before it is mixed with noise. While talking on the cellular phone in a noisy condition, turning up the volume can enhance the speech intelligibility. However, we provide an algorithm which results in a significant intelligibility improvement compared to turning up the volume. The algorithm is computationally efficient so that it can be implemented in a cellular phone .
