Abstract

A dynamical model of a grid-connected wind-energy converter system including a matrix converter is developed. The model is intended to be useful for controller design purposes. A comprehensive model for the matrix converter is included that satisfies all normal functions of matrix converter, i.e., control of the output voltage, output frequency, and input displacement power factor. Detailed models of the mechanical aerodynamic conversion, drive train, matrix converter, and squirrel cage induction generator are developed and combined to enable steady-state and transient simulations of the overall system.
