Abstract

The energy consumption of residential swimming pools is necessary for modeling and forecasting residential loads. LTE developed a mathematical model able to determine the energy consumption associated with different pool types and sizes, for different water heating scenarios and different climatic regions. The model was validated with the data obtained from the monitoring of the water temperature and energy use of 57 residential swimming pools. In addition, five pools were installed on LTE's grounds to allow for a more detailed study of the parameters involved in the thermal balance of a pool. The mathematical model is based on a global heat transfer coefficient U and on the utilization of a solar blanket.
