Abstract

There are two basic types of low voltage (LV) distribution practice. Those systems based on the European approach have long LV feeders that require careful consideration at the design stage. The most important criterion in conductor sizing is the estimation of the design loads. This paper describes how the Beta pdf is used in South Africa to describe the statistical properties of residential loads. The Beta parameters may be readily used in voltage design calculations. The paper also suggests how these load parameters may be derived in other countries from the customer group after-diversity-maximum demand, (ADMD).
